Meeting Summary: Rights, Remedies and AI Jurisprudence: Upholding Justice, Rule of Law and Human Rights in the Age of Agentic AI
During the United Nations (UN) General Assembly High-Level Week, OHCHR and Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies (hosted by NYU Center on International Cooperation) organized a discussion on rights, remedies and artificial intelligence (AI) jurisprudence—hosted by Open Society Foundations.
The event was co-sponsored by the World Bank Group, the Korea-World Bank Partnership Facility, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Canada, the Dominican Republic Judiciary, the Ada Lovelace Institute, and the Justice Action Coalition.
The discussion focused on the accountability challenges raised by agentic AI and the role of the justice sector to support stronger accountability of AI in practice. Following framing remarks and a technical briefing on agentic AI, experts examined how existing law applies to AI-related harm, implications for human rights protections, how liability should be allocated across complex AI value chains, and the type of capacity that justice institutions need to respond to this technology
