Global Alliance Against Inequality

Who We Are

The Global Alliance Against Inequality brings together governments, international organizations, civil society, and other partners committed to advancing action on both vertical and horizontal inequalities. Supported by Pathfinders as Secretariat, the Global Alliance serves as a high-level political platform to promote policies and partnerships that strengthen democracy, protect human rights, and foster peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.

The Alliance promotes collaboration through joint advocacy, public events, policy dialogue, and practical initiatives to accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda, including by helping build momentum toward the 2027 SDG Summit. By advancing evidence-based approaches to tackling inequality, it also contributes to discussions on the post-2030 international development framework. The initiative builds on Pathfinders' long-standing work on inequality, justice, and inclusive governance, drawing on years of research, policy engagement, and partnerships to support systemic change.

The Pathfinders’ Global Alliance will encourage countries to:

Highlight practical solutions including improved data collection and measurement to promote equitable redistribution of resources and power within and between countries.
Mainstream the fight against inequality in multilateral processes to uphold equal dignity and rights for all.
Expand knowledge on the link between inequality, inclusion, and governments’ capacity to make impactful national and international commitments.

These efforts will emphasize the collective role of diverse stakeholders in shaping shared solutions, engaging in constructive dialogue, and implementing effective policies to combat inequality, exclusion, and division.

A Growing Global Alliance Against Inequality Sets Course for 2027

One year after its launch, the Global Alliance Against Inequality reconvened at the 2026 Hamburg Sustainability Conference to reaffirm its shared determination to reduce inequality and identify common priorities on the road to the 2027 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit. The meeting concluded with the release of a Joint Statement on Working Together Towards the 2027 SDG Summit, reflecting the shared commitment of members and partners to advance this agenda in a spirit of cooperation, complementarity and mutual support.

Expert-Level Meeting of the Global Alliance Against Inequality 2026

Geneva, March 2026 | This expert-level meeting was convened to provide participating member states and partners with an opportunity to take stock of recent developments and key trends related to inequality, review the Alliance’s 2026–2027 workplan and working methods, and explore synergies with the International Panel on Inequality and other initiatives addressing inequality.

Launch of the Global Alliance at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference

World leaders and civil society champions came together on June 3, 2025 at the 2025 Hamburg Sustainability Conference to urge stronger global action on inequality, launching the new Global Alliance Against Inequality and endorse a bold joint declaration that calls for coordinated political action and inclusive policy solutions to one of the defining challenges of our time. The event featured the participation of H.E. Ms. Kadiatu Allie, Deputy Minister of Finance of Sierra Leone; H.E. Mr. Niels Annen, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development; Mr. Amitabh Behar, Executive Director of Oxfam International; and Fernando Marani, Program Director at the NYU Center on International Cooperation.

Global Alliance Against Inequality Calls for Action Following the Compromiso de Sevilla
