Joint Statement on behalf of the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies at the High-level Political Forum, July 2023
Halfway to 2030, and I quote the SG, “the SDGs are in deep trouble” and SDG16 is no exception, being one of 7 SDGs for which no target is on track. In fact, 5.1 billion people still lack meaningful access to justice, 1.4 million are killed every year due to violence, and 71 percent of the world’s population live in places where inequality has increased.
This statement was by H.E. Ms. Arlene Beth Tickner, Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Colombia to the United Nations on July 17, 2023, during the general debate of the ministerial days of the 2023 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and the High-level Segment of ECOSOC. The statement was prepared by the Permanent Missions of Colombia and Switzerland to the United Nations.
