GENSAC Statement at Preparatory Meeting of States on the Global Framework on Through-Life Conventional Ammunition Management
Statement by the Gender Equality Network for Small Arms Control at the Preparatory Meeting of States on the Global Framework on Through-Life Conventional Ammunition Management (GFA) in New York on June 25th, 2025. This was delivered by Deborah McFee of the Women’s Institute for Alternative Development (WINAD) based in Trinidad and Tobago.
GENSAC sees the Global Framework for Through Life Conventional Ammunition Management (or the GFA) as a critical step toward addressing the overlooked role of ammunition in driving armed violence, gender-based violence, and human insecurity in both conflict and apparent peace settings. The GFA also serves as a critical complement to existing international instruments on SALW, particularly the UN Programme of Action (UNPoA) and the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), as well as regional roadmaps. The GFA is a pragmatic tool that translates high-level commitments into doable, adaptable actions, designed not just to exist on paper, but to make real-world prevention work.
