Since 2021, the Conference of Ministers of Justice of Ibero-American Countries has been working on a draft Ibero-American Convention on Access to Justice. The main objective of this initiative is to build a regional binding instrument to advance access to justice in the region and arrive at common agreements on what it needs to make it happen.
The importance of the Ibero-American region in this matter is that European and Latin American views on how to understand access to justice coexist, which enriches the initiative. In addition, Ibero-America has several decades of experience in public policies on access to justice, which has resulted in a wide range of soft law guidelines, which could now become mandatory.
