In West Africa and the Sahel, customary, community-based, and other informal justice systems are predominant and of increasing interest to a wide range of development actors as a means of enhancing people-centred justice. The regional policy dialogue, ‘Strengthening diverse pathways to people-centred justice in West Africa and the Sahel,’ will be a means of centring sustained, rights-based engagement with diverse justice actors and practices in the regional justice agenda and serve as a public platform for discussion amongst policy and thought leaders. The event is co-hosted by Cordaid; International Development Law Organization; Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just, and Inclusive Societies; UN Development Programme; and UN Women. It will highlight key recommendations in a new joint report, Diverse pathways to people-centred justice, as they pertain to West Africa and the Sahel, and make the case for the centrality of CIJ systems in achieving justice for all in line with Sustainable Development Goal 16.
